Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySARAH SORKE SAPER (nee BORODITSKY) Peacefully on December 17, 1999 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, beloved mother and baba, after a determined battle with her illness. Born November 11, 1921, Sorke was predeceased by Max Saper her husband of 55 years in March of 1998; her parents Masha and Sam Boroditsky and her brother Louis of Brandon. She will be especially missed by her children Art and Marsha (Levitt) of Ottawa, Zivan and Tannis (Malkin) and Blumie and Paul (Hughes) of California. Her greatest pleasure was watching her grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan and Avi grow and flourish. As a wife, mother and daughter, her family was the center of her life. From the special Sabbath meals to the value of education for her children, she gave tirelessly of her energy and time, seeking opportunities to provide comfort, guidance and advice. She was the epitome of the sandwich generation before it became fashionable in the 90s, having returned home to Winnipeg from Ottawa after the war to care for her parents until their passing in the early 1960s. While growing up, her children will always remember the good times in the family home on St. Cross St. Surrounded by love and warmth, it was more than a place to live. It was a place of good times, memories, and large family gatherings. There were the annual summer holidays in Detroit Lakes. Although not a beach person by nature, she encouraged her kids to enjoy the water and the outdoors even if she worried terribly as the boat left the dock for a quick trip on the lake. Although active in many community organizations, including the Talmud Torah PTA, Hadassah, Brandeis Lodge and HSBA Gardens, the pastime she came to enjoy the most was supporting her husband and sons at the Maple Leaf Curling Rink - sitting behind the glass to watch many a game as well as working at the famous Bnai Brith Bonspiels in their heyday. She made many friends as she travelled the curling circuit in Manitoba and Canada with her husband. Those were memorable times, as they began the tradition of the hospitality suite at the many Briers they attended together across the country. She was especially appreciative of the care and attention she received form Dr. Gerry Minuk over the years. A special thank you to the nursing staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital, the staff of the Sharon Home, and especially her companion Esther Daga who made her feel special. Funeral services were held on December 17 at the Chesed Shel Emes with interment immediately after at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Y. Benamou. Pallbearers were her three grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, and Avi, nephew Ron Zimmerman, Harvey Levitt and Hersh Doctoroff. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
