Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAUKUR (HANK) THORKELSSON On December 16, 1999 at the Vancouver General Hospital, two months short of his 87th birthday, Haukur (Hank) Thorkelsson. Haukur was born on February 16, 1913 at Egilsstadir, Iceland. His family immigrated to Canada in May of 1914, landing at Quebec City. The family moved to Winnipeg and then to the Ashern District. Haukur attended Ralph Connor School, and in 1926 the family moved to the town of Ashern. Haukur, with his brothers, Edwin and Harold, worked with their father in the livery and trucking business, forming Manitobas first P.S.V. trucking business, Ashern Freighters. Later Haukur took up training as a magician, performing at the Dominion Theatre in Winnipeg, the Interlake, and Westlake area of Manitoba, as well as in Saskatchewan. He then trained himself in radio and electronics, later moving to Winnipeg and forming Electronic Labs at 130 Osborne St. Haukur started radio manufacturing under the name Thorcraft Radio on Marion St., Chambers St. and 87 King St. In 1960 Haukur moved to Vancouver and then sold his business. He then started and operated Grant Electronics until his demise. He leaves to mourn his daughter in law Dale; grandsons, Eric and Glen; granddaughters, Kim and Kathy of Vancouver, B.C.; brothers, Edwin and Conrad of Winnipeg and Raymond of Ashern; sisters, Viola, Myrtle and Faye of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his only son Grant; his father Halldor; his mother Gudrun; his sister Helen and a brother Harold overseas in 1944.
