After a lengthy battle with diabetic related complications, Alex Salfi passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, Saturday, March 18, 2000. Alex will be leaving behind to mourn him, his mother Modesta Salfi, brother Alfred Salfi, both of Eston, SK; wife Rhoda of 22 years; son Paul Hajner, daughter Beverly Salfi-Schaefer (Allen), their children, Ian, Brooke and Kara of Ft. Smith, N.W.T., son Troy Salfi (Kyla), their children, Marin and Jeremy of Winnipeg, MB, son Russell Salfi, daughters, Laura, Sara and Patricia Salfi. Alex is survived by uncles, cousins, in-laws and many friends. Born April 22, 1943 and spending most of his young life working hard on the family farm near Eston. Starting as a janitor with Canadian Propane (Kindersley, SK), motivation, hard work, and determination made Alex a significant and valuable member of the ICG Propane management team (35 plus years). As a resident of Drayton Valley, AB for 20 years, Alex was a successful and active member of Town Council. Alex was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club and many other volunteer committees. Along with his passion for work, Alex had many enjoyable memories from his avid fastball and curling days. In 1991 his career advanced him to Winnipeg where he continued to work hard until his failing health pushed him into retirement in 1998. Those who knew him well, appreciated his talent for making you smile with his jokes and story telling ability. A service is to take place Thursday, March 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 45 Dalhousie Dr. A public viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Our family would like to acknowledge with gratitude the sensitive care given by all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface, Rehabilitation, Health Sciences Centre Hospitals and also the Homecare Program.
