NELLIE MAITLAND PROSKURNIK Peacefully in the early morning hours of March 21, 2000 at the Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon, Nellie Maitland Proskurnik (nee Belanus) was called to join our Lord at the age of 58 years. Nell was born and raised in Walhalla, North Dakota. Mom will be greatly missed by her husband Peter; children, Christina (Mark), Peter (Josie), Anna and Jen, Steve (Marcie) and Alex; grandchildren, Mark Jr., and Madolyn; numerous brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. During the last 10 months, she fought a courageous battle with failing health, enlisting alternative treatments and herbal remedies. She never lost her spirit and tried to maintain her optimism. Her suffering has ended but the loss of her presence is immense and leaves us all with tremendous loneliness. Mom had a great love of horses, bird watching and her dogs. She loved watching her sons play hockey, especially when they were all playing together. Another source of happiness was spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly. For many years, she was the cornerstone of the band "The Carpet Baggers" entertaining at various Clubs and functions. Mom had a lot of patience and understanding and was the glue that held our family together. We especially remember many Sunday dinners together and can still smell the aroma of her pork roasts or roasted chicken. We loved spending time with her and she loved the time with her family. The family wish to thank the staff of Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon, Dr. McTaggert and Allan Bailey for there tremendous care and support. Friends may call from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Pastor Tim Thiessen will officiate and interment will follow in the Victoria Cemetery, Balmoral. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of the arrangements.
