WILLIAM EDWARD OLIVE Bill passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by the love of his family and friends following an extended battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) on Tuesday, May 2, 2000. Bill was born on March 14, 1950 and was raised in Transcona. He began working for CNR in 1973. In most recent years, he was a Switch Tender at "C" Tower at Symington Yard. Bill was a quiet, patient and gentle man. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his laugh, heard especially on weekends when he was almost always in the company of friends and family. Bill loved spending weekends at the lake. He also had a great love for children. He enjoyed taking any of the kids that would go along on sightseeing adventures and spent countless hours with many of them in the backyard pool. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Sophie in 1968; his father Joe in 1980; his sister Barbara Kovac in 1997 and his father-in-law Sam Dunwoody in 1993. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 24 years Cathy; the light of his life and treasured daughter Jolene; loving sister JoAnn and her husband Bill Vallis; mother-in-law Isabelle Dunwoody; many other in-laws; ten nieces; nine nephews; two great-nieces and five great-nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends, all of whom had a special place in his heart. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff on 2 East at River View and to Bills angels from Home Care, Gemma, Mae, Jennifer, Carla, Shawna, Leona, Tim, Louisa, Rita, Rick, Evelyn and Marie and the many others that were a part of his care as well as their superiors for the wonderful care Bill received and the kindness and consideration given to us over the past two years. We also thank our family and friends for the love, moral, and spiritual support. And a heartfelt thanks to Bills good friends Randy and Butch for their never ending devotion. For our friend Maureen, who has been the pillar of strength for us, we are eternally grateful. In keeping with Bills wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of his life on Friday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Grey Street United Church, N.E. Grey and Sandhurst, with Rev. Gordon Fulford officiating. Bill has requested that to all who know him to share a laugh with a friend today and remember the days when he too laughed with you. If friends so desire donations can be made in Bills memory and appreciation of their support to ALS Society (House Fund) Winnipeg or ALS Society (Dr. M. Strong, Research), London, Ontario, both in care of ALS Society of Manitoba, N108 North Pavilion, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Man., R3J 0L3. VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME 220 Hespeler Avenue 668-3151
