KATHERINE (KAY) PODOLSKY (nee SHEPIT) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved wife, mother and Baba on May 3, 2000 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach at the age of 76. Katherine (Mom) was born in Sirko, MB on March 27, 1924 to Anna and John Shepit. She spent her early years in the Sirko and Emerson area. As a young adult she lived in Toronto and Chicago where she was employed. Katherine (Mom) returned to Sirko and married Peter Podolsky on June 5, 1947. Together they farmed in the Tolstoi area and raised two children. Katherine was devoted to her churches in Sirko and Tolstoi. Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 53 years, Peter, her daughter Dianne (Terry) Germain, son Glenn (Wendy). She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her three loving grandchildren Ashley, Kristen and Tyler. Katherine was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Mary Cherewayko and Sophie Rybak. Mom enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her gardening and flowers. Family, friends and home were the most important things in her life. Christmas and Easter were joyous times at her home where the entire family gathered to enjoy her Ukrainian cooking. Weekends at Babas were always filled with fun and excitement. Baba made the best prune buns, cinnamon buns, perogies and borscht. Mom always gave us moral support and encouragement. She was the strength behind the family. We will forever miss you. Prayers will be said on Sunday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach with Divine Liturgy on Monday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sirko with Rev. Father Michael Skrumeda and Rev. Father Miron Pozniak officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Manitoba Heart Foundation. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Edward Rybak, Peter Holodryga, Gary Persowich and Wilmar Bilawchuk. Active pallbearers will be Emil and Garry Cherewayko, Freeman Fjeldsted, Allen Merrithew, Doug Henderson and Pete Solomon. A very special thanks to Dr. M. Duerksen and the staff at the Bethesda Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach. "Vichnaya Pamyat"
