KATHERINE PRESTENSKI (nee GROSSMAN) Very gently, on Wednesday, July 12, 2000, while at Misericordia Place, Katherine (Kay) Prestenski knocked on the door of her eternal home and asked her Heavenly Father if she could come home. The Lord answered her request and invited her to enter. Waiting to greet her was her husband Walter and other family members. We are certain Dad said, "Kitty, what took you so long? I missed you!" Kay was born 90 years ago on December 30, 1909, in Winnipeg. As a young child she moved to Lorette, Man., with her family and settled on the family farm. It was there that she received her early schooling. Thanks to a wonderful friend, Cora Rudd, Kay was able to continue her education in the "big city" and eventually become a school teacher. Her first teaching position was at Le Blanc School, near St. Adolphe, Man. There she met Walter. They were married in 1937 and began farming in St. Adolphe. They later moved to St. Vital and Kay resumed teaching for a number of years. She was a strong believer in education and always said, "Whatever you put up there," pointing to her brain, "no one can take away." Kay loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to far-off lands with her sister Mary or with friends. Her kindness and generosity will be remembered by many. Kay was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1959 and by brothers, John, Joe and Adolph. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Margaret (Tom) Van Raes, as well as the loves of her life, her three granddaughters, Donna (Floyd) Alexander, Brenda Van Raes, Karen (Bill) Seymour; her six great-grandchildren, Lee and Sherri Cushnie, David (Michelle Loewen) and Stephanie Chartrand, Laura and Michael Seymour and one great-great-grandson Tyler Chartrand; sister Mary Virstuk; brothers, Frank (Germaine) and Fred (Josie). Her sisters-in-law, numerous nephews, nieces, "bridge" friends and former neighbours will also have fond memories of Kay. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, Mass Offerings, or donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, CNIB, or Canadian Diabetes Association, would be appreciated by the family. The family invites relatives and friends to join with them in celebrating Kays life by participating at a Mass of Resurrection at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd., with Fr. Leonce Aubin presiding. The interment will take place at St. Vital Cemetery immediately follow the mass. You are invited to join the family at St. Bernadette Parish Hall for refreshments, fellowship and the sharing of memories after the interment. To laugh often and much, To win the respect of intelligent people, And the affection of children, To leave the world a little bit better, To know even one life had breathed easier Because you had lived that is to have succeeded. And that you did, Mom. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
