THOMAS IAN PRIOR Thomas Ian Prior, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed way suddenly at Pine Lake, AB on Friday, July 14, 2000. Tom was born September 23, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Adele of Calgary; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Glenn Dracass of Red Deer, grandchildren, Deirdre Lobb (Murray) of Calgary and Daryl Dracass (Jacqueline) of Red Deer, and his sister Mary Dent of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Corby Leigh and by his sister Olive. Tom will be remembered for the creative solutions he often found to the challenges of his careers. As a young man he built a special tricycle for disabled children. Following a career as a bridge inspector for the Manitoba Government, Tom went on to use his talents on many construction projects in Alberta such as the Aquitane railway bridge in Rocky, the Athabaska River bridge in Fort McMurray, the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, the Calf Rope bridge and the tunnel through the Centre Street bridge in Calgary. In 1997, after seven active and creative years, Tom retired from ATCO Noise Management in Calgary. Upon retirement, Tom enjoyed many hobbies and became a tireless and enthusiastic volunteer at the Carewest Sarcee Continuing Care Centre. He was a super salesman in the gift store, took residents on outings and medicals, and truly enjoyed socializing with the residents. He also loved the time he spent with Adele camping in Alberta. A celebration of Toms life will take place on Saturday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sarcee Continuing Care Centre Chapel, with Rev. Arnie Chamberlain and Sister Elizabeth Lynch officiating. In lieu of floral tributes, donations to the Carewest Sarcee Volunteer Association, 3504 - 29th Street, S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 2L3 or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated.
