Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEATRICE NUSGART NOZICK On Wednesday, August 23, 2000, Beattie passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She struggled valiantly but lost the war to cancer after fighting many battles with courage and dignity. She was an inspiration for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her children, Sharon and David Michaelson and Elenor and Sidney Conn; her grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Rebecca, Max and Orly, Lee, Nancy and Marla; many nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. Over the years, Beattie lost many loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Rebecca and Isaac Nusgart; her beloved husband Alan; and her only son Mark; her brothers, Hyman, Max and Eddie Nusgart; and her two terrific sisters, Beverly Cohen and Sara Hyman. Beattie bore the tragedy of Marks unexpected death with dignity and grace. Beattie was born in Winnipeg on July 23, 1918. After attending the University of Manitoba in Home Economics, and working for a short time in the business world, she married Alan. Together they established a loving home and raised three children. She took great pride in her home. She set a beautiful table, entertaining her family and friends often. Those of us lucky enough to have been part of the West Hawk Lake experience have many happy memories. She baked an outstanding blueberry pie but only for those who picked the berries. She loved her pedal boat and often could be seen pedalling up the bay. Other interests over the years included bowling, theatre, symphony and opera. Beattie was a life member of Haddasah-Wizo, serving as Aliyah Chapter president for many years. She took particular pride in the publication and sales of her Passover Cookbook. She was an active participant in the National Council Book group for more than 30 years. Beattie was a devoted grandmother, maintaining long distance relationships with each of her grandchildren individually. Their trips to Florida and Palm Springs are cherished memories for them all. If one measure of a life is the loyalty and devotion of ones friends, Beatties cup was full. We would like to thank all of the many people who cared for Beattie over the past few months, especially Dr.Paul Daeninck, Dr. Harlows, and the wonderful nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit of St. Boniface Hospital, and all of the Home Care workers and Medox staff. Funeral services will be held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, Wellington Crescent, on Friday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m. Shiva will be at 403 - 180 Tuxedo. Please, no flowers. Donations may be sent to the Alan and Beatrice Nozick Fund, Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, 477-7525; or the Mark Lewis Nozick Music Scholarship Fund, University of Manitoba, 474-8880.
