VICTOR ODILON JOSEPH BEAUDRY (1917 - 2000) Par un gris mercredi matin - cetait le mercredi 6 septembre de lan 2000 a lHopital general Saint-Boniface - Victor Odilon Joseph Beaudry, raconteur, sest eteint paisiblement dans les bras de son epouse Annette, nee Belanger. Ainsi commence une vie remplie daventures: ne a South Junction au Manitoba le 6 octobre 1917, Victor faisait partie de cette race fiere dhommes des bois. A partir de lage de 18 ans, il a ete bucheron et agriculteur a Vassar. Durant la depression, il a travaille pour une mine dor a Beresford au Manitoba, ou il faisit de la chasse pour alimenter le camp en gibier. Il connaissait la nature comme le dos de sa main. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il etait sergent detat-major avec le regiment des Cameron Highlanders. Vetu du kilt regimentaire, il a epouse sa bein-aimee Annette en 1941. De cette heureuse union sont nes cinq enfants. Apres la guerre, Victor a travaille dans la fonderie de Manitoba Rolling Mills a Selkirk. Il a aussi ete agent dEsso a Saint-Georges au Manitoba. En 1949, il est devenu chauffeur de "ptit char" et dautobus au Winnipeg Transit pour terminer sa carriere en tant que superviseur. A sa retraite en 1981, il a eu la chance de voyager avec son epouse au Canada, aux Etats-Unis et en Europe et il a consacre son temps a faire de la menuiserie et a aider ses enfants. Il etait le plus heureux losrquil se retrouvait dans la nature et lorsquil pouvait explorer les bois dans la foret de sa jeunesse au Lac Beresford, Manitoba. Rien netait a lepreuve de Victor. Homme de tradition, de gros bon sens et de grande determination, il a su transmettre aux membres de sa famille une ethique de travail exemplaire ainsi quun esprit de famille et de solidarite. Il savait charmer ses petits-enfants en leur racontant les exploits de sa jeunesse. Outre son epouse, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Lucienne (Lucien Loiselle), Paulette (Michael Dryda), Raymonde (Ronald Desrochers), Georges (Florence), et Clovis (Aline) ses 12 petits-enfants et ses 17 arriere-petits-enfants. Il laisse aussi son frere Oscar (Isabelle) et ses soeurs Lorraine (Jim), Marguerite et Jeanne (Dollard). Papa, pepere, tu vas nous manquer enormement. Les services funeraires, debuteront a 10 h 00 le samedi 9 septembre a leglise du Precieux-Sang, 200 rue Kenny. Ils seront presides par les abbes Marcel Chaput, Leo Couture et Bernard Belanger, ainsi que Father Morand. La famille remercie sincerement le personnel des Soins a domicile et celui du Centre palliatif de lhopital. Les personnes interessees peuvent envoyer un don a la Fondation du Centre palliatif de lHopital general Saint-Boniface, bureau D1003, 409 avenue Tache, Winnipeg, Man., R2H 2A6. La direction des funerailles a ete confiee au salon funeraire Green Acres. VICTOR ODILON JOSEPH BEAUDRY (1917 - 2000) Peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2000, with his family by his side, Victor Odilon Joseph Beaudry, aged 82, passed away in the Palliative Care Centre at Saint-Boniface General Hospital. Born in South Junction, Man., on October 6, 1917, Victor lived a full and adventurous life. He worked as a lumberjack, a farmer, a hunter for the gold mine at Beresford Lake, Man., a Second World War staff sergeant, a foundry worker, an Esso agent, a streetcar driver and a bus driver for the Winnipeg Transit where he ended his 34 year career as a supervisor. He was happiest when he building furniture, houses or cottages and when he was in nature. He had a gift for knowing the name of every tree and every animal in the forest. He knew the names and medicinal value of plants. He taught his knowledge to his children and grandchildren. He taught us well. In 1941, he married his one and only sweetheart Annette and together they had five children. His great determination and strength of character allowed him to meet any challenge. He was a man of great generosity and he instilled strong traditional values to all the members of his family. He will be remembered for the stories of his youth with which he charmed his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Annette (Belanger) as well as by his five children, Lucienne (Lucien Loiselle), Paulette (Michael Dryda), Raymonde (Ronald Desrochers), Georges (Florence) and Clovis (Aline) his 12 grandchildren, Michel, Richard, Robert Loiselle; Raymond and Gilles Belot; Daniel, Rachelle, Brigitte Desrochers; Philippe and Michelle Beaudry; Paul and Nicole Beaudry as well as his 17 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Oscar (Isabelle) and his sisters, Lorraine (Jim), Marguerite and Jeanne (Dollard). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. in the Roman Catholic Church of Precieux-Sang, 200 Kenny St. Fathers Marcel Chaput, Leo Couture, Bernard Belanger and Morand will officiate. The family owes a debt of gratitude to the staff of Home Care and of the Palliative Care Unit at Saint-Boniface General Hospital. No one could have asked for better care than from these people who allowed our father to die in dignity and in peace.
