MARGARET ROSE THORVALDSON Born March 22, 1938 Died September 27, 2000 Rose died peacefully in Edmonton on September 27, 2000. She is survived by one son Helgi Gunnar of Edmonton. Predeceased by her parents, Margret and Helgi Thorvaldson and her sister Bernice Mitchell. Margaret Rose was born and raised in Oak Point, Man. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Joyce (Bill Tonn), Gladys (Doug Wirth), Gloria (Mike Tilleman) and brothers, Gunnar, Gordon (Evelyn), August (Carolyn) and special friends, Ada and Stan Snidal and Peggy Bergthorson. Rose began her working career at Air Canada in Winnipeg and spent several years there. Rose moved to the United States as a young woman and worked in Florida and California. She was with Stanford University for many years. Her son, Helgi was born in California in 1978. She and Helgi moved back to Canada in 1983. She settled in Edmonton and retired from the University of Alberta in 1993. She was a member of the Edmonton Icelandic Society and was proud of her Icelandic heritage. Rose was gifted in sewing, art and interior decorating. Rose enjoyed cooking and as everyone who knew her would agree, was very good at it. She always had a nice garden and was talented at sewing and dress-making. She made many dresses, costumes and suits. At an early age she had a gift for drawing and painting. Rose had love and a smile for everyone she met and everybody loved her back in return. Rose had many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cremation has taken place and the memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Unitarian Church of Edmonton at 12530 - 110 Avenue, Edmonton. Rev. Brian Kiely will read the service. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. Relatives and friends will be advised. Thank you friends and family for all your thoughts and love. We will all miss Rose dearly. Donations may be made in her memory to Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, AB, T6G 1Z2 or a charity of ones choice.
