He also leaves to mourn his sister Hilaria (Pete) Wowryk and brothers, Nestor (Ruth), George (Evelyn) and Peter, and many nieces and nephews. Julian was born in Oakburn, Man. in 1935 where he attended school and later graduated from the Teachers College in Winnipeg, Man. His teaching career started in 1955 at Winona School in Shortdale, Man. where he met Marie (Farion) and they wed in 1959. His teaching career continued through Ethelbert and Roblin, Man. and into the Lord Selkirk School Division, from which he retired in 1989. Julian took pride in his Ukrainian heritage and loved teaching it throughout his life. He was also proud to be one of the founders of Junior Parliament. As a man of many talents, Julian enjoyed playing musical instruments, in which he was self-taught. He played the guitar, organ, violin, saxophone and harmonica with ease. Julian also took pride in his many building projects, such as home renovations, cottage construction and tinkering around in his workshop. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Rites will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Vlodymyrs Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Oakburn, Man. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division) 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. God looked around His garden And found an empty space He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face He put his arm around you And lifted you to rest Gods garden must be beautiful, He only picks the best. He knew you were suffering, The road was getting rough So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you, But you will not go alone, Because part of us went with you, The day God called you home. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Do pobachennya Tato, Ya vas Kohayu! (Goodbye, I love you Father). You taught me even when you didn't know it. I appreciate the education, caring, love and dreams that you gave me. You had huge dreams and only wanted the best for your children. You could fix or build anything. I'm sorry you were not able to complete your own electric car. Fond memories of you playing baseball with me in father/son game, helping to fix my bicycles then later cars. You lived by the rule 'if your mind can conceive it then you can achieve it'. Miss you always, Mark - Posted by: Mark Julian Polowy (Son) on: Jan 25, 2013
