CECIL PORTER July 31, 1913 - November 25, 2000 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandad, brother and uncle. Dad fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer and went peacefully with his daughter-in-law at his side at the Health Sciences Centre. Dad was a kind, gentle, compassionate man. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Francies Porter on July 9, 1973 and his parents, Ethel Porter and Henry Porter. He is survived by his son Brian (Carol), his two grandchildren, Keith and Carolyn and his son Craig. He leaves to mourn his sister Alma Whiteside and his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Clark (Reg), Pauline Preston and June Jones (John) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dad spent his whole life living in Winnipeg. He married Francies Preston on June 18, 1938. He worked for the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 for 39 years, retiring in 1978. His retirement years were spent helping others and enjoying his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at his cottage at Caddy Lake. Dad was a devoted Father and Grandad. His Grandchildren were the love of his life. They have a special bond, one which they will treasure all their lives. He was always there for his family and friends whenever they needed help. He was a Jack-of-all-trades. He loved to build and was a skilled craftsman. He was a creative welder and designed his own boathouse and ramp with a floor that lifted up and down, one of the first on Caddy Lake. Caddy Lake was his piece of heaven, where he loved to get in touch with nature. He loved to sit in his chair and watch the hummingbirds feed, as well as feeding the ducks that came into the yard. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of GH-4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and support. Thanks for making Dads last few days as comfortable as they could be. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St., with Rev. Harold Ritchie officiating. Committal Brookside Cemetery. Dad/Grandad We love you You will always be in our hearts You are now at peace and pain free God Bless You You were always there when we needed you No task too great or small With a loving heart and a willing hand. For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, You know how much we care. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He put his arm around you, And said: come to me. So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. You didnt deserve what you went through, So he took you home to rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. FOREVER IN OUR MEMORIES BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
