GEORGINA SHIRLEY PRESTON (GEORGIE) (nee BAKER) Peacefully on December 12, 2000 at the Concordia Hospital, our mother aged 73 years passed away. Mom was predeceased by her husband Jim (1986) brother Ken (1998) and grandson Robert Hallas (1972). She will be lovingly remembered forever by her son David, (Cheryle) daughters, Jean Anne Hallas (Tom), Arlane Balichowski (Wayne) grandchildren, Kelly (Serge) Parent, Jeremy Preston, Steven (Laura Wright) Hallas, Allyson (Michael) Desgroseilliers, Cara (Frank) Snare and Chris (Angie Chandler) Balichowski; her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Preston, Josephine and Arianna Snare; her brothers, Jim (Grace) Baker, Norman (Jan) Baker, Don (Roberta) Baker; sisters, Jean Moniuk, Margaret Sangster; sisters-in-law, Joyce Baker and Gladys McNeill (Ted) and her faithful companion Munchkin. She is also survived by her Aunt Helen Sims; Uncle Bob Crichton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shirley was born in Stonewall, Manitoba on June 3, 1927 and she moved to Winnipeg, where she met and married her husband Jim. Jim and Shirley resided in Transcona most of their married life. Shirley worked at Woolco for 17 years until she retired. She loved to knit, do crossword puzzles, crafts, play on the computer and spend time at the lake. The family wish to extend sincere thanks to our special Auntie Margaret, who faithfully visited mom every day while she was in the hospital and who has been a very important part of our life, always. Funeral service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Saturday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m. Services will terminate at the Chapel with cremation to follow. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
