Katie will be lovingly remembered by her grandson, Terry Burt and wife Marianne; great-grandchildren, Gregory (Susan) Deppendorf and Brigitta (Don) Desjardine; great-great grandchildren, Marianna, Sara, Rebeca, Kaitlin and Brendan and very special friends, Bonnie and Jerry Bogacki and their sons, Dave (Stephanie), Glen (Rochelle), Kenny (Kim) and grandchildren. Katie was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph; daughter Josephine; son-in-law Stan Burt and all other relatives. Born in Lithuania on March 22, 1895, she immigrated as a young woman to Chicago, where she met her husband Joseph. Together they returned to Lithuania to be united in marriage. Following the birth of her daughter Josephine, the family immigrated to Canada, where they settled and lived for many years in the Fort Whyte area, making lifelong friends. Katie was devoted to her daughter, who passed away on December 3. She was also devoted to her faith and parish church, St. Vital Catholic Church, where, at 105 years of age, she was the oldest living parishioner. Over the years she enjoyed her spiritual friendships with Msgr. Cournoyer, Father Ed Morand and Father Patrick Morand, as well as her many friends in the congregation. Katie was a unique woman with a wonderful sense of humour who will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to Dr. Ruth Simkin, for the loving care she gave to Katie for many, many years and the staff on Unit 5 at Central Park Lodge who made Katie comfortable during her stay there these past five weeks. Cremation has taken place. A mass in her memory was said on Tuesday, December 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church, 1129 Pembina Hwy. A private interment for Katie and Josie will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Katies memory to the St. Maurice Parish School, c/o St. Vital Catholic Church, 1129 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3T 2G6.
