Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. MERVYN NORMAN TINCKAM MB BS (University Sydney) February 25, 1917- February 3, 2001 Peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2001 Dr. Mervyn Norman Tinckam passed away in the arms of his family, and was surrounded by close friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lorraine of Winnipeg; his children, Kathryn of Vancouver, Cynthia (Norman Schache) of Brisbane Queensland, Pamela (John Janes, deceased) of Rockhampton Queensland and Michael of Sydney N.S.W.; his grandchildren, Alison, Darren and Robert Schache, and Jeremy (Melissa), and Gregory (Michelle) Janes; great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jack Schache and Mackenzie Janes; brother Douglas (Barbara) niece Judy and nephew Ron. He was predeceased by his first wife Doreen and by his brothers Ray and Gordon. Merv was born February 25, 1917 in Marrickville (Sydney), N.S.W. to Horace Norman Tinckam and Mabel Evelyn White, and graduated in 1934 from Fort Street School for Boys. He attended the University of Sydney Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1939. He served in the Australian Army Medical Corps during the Second World War and retired as a Major. Merv then set up general practice in Dee Why, N.S.W. where he is still remembered for his compassion, integrity and dedication to his patients as well as maintaining the tradition of the house call for his 50 years of practice. In his pre-retirement he remained active as a physician at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. Said best in his Medical School yearbook "Genteel in personage, conduct and equipage. To such men as these, pre-destined to become general practitioners, does Medicine owe a great debt, alas too often ill-repaid." Always the perfect gentleman, his family is thankful for his love and selfless devotion, and for so many years of beautiful memories. In accordance with Mervyns wishes no formal Funeral service will be held. Our family wishes to thank the staff of wards D4, H3 and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and professionalism, and Drs. Lipschitz, Sandha, VanAmeyde and Johnson for their excellent medical care and most of all their compassion. Special thanks to our friends and family who carried Mervyn, Lorraine and Kathryn through this sad time. Flowers, cards and donations are gratefully declined. Goodnight little Dad, I love you.
