THORA THORGILSSON Peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2001, at the Lundar Personal Care Home, Thora Thorgilsson age 82 years of Lundar, MB. Thora was born February 21, 1918 in Iceland, coming to Canada as a small child with her parents, the late Benjamin and Helga Benjaminson. The family settled in the Markland District where she attended school. She married Norman Thorgilsson on March 8, 1940. Together they farmed in the North Star District and later moved to the Otto District. They retired from farming in the late 60s, moving to Lundar, MB. Thora continued working at the Lundar Hotel, cleaning units; she also cleaned and polished the floor at the community hall. Thora spent 14 years caretaking at the R.C.M.P. detachment. Thora also was a custodian at the Lundar School. She leaves to mourn four children, Welland (Sandra) Thorgilsson, Karen (Arthur) Roberts, Marvin (Sharon) Thorgilsson and Wayne Thorgilsson; ten grandchildren, Sheryl (Kevin) Halldorson, Wade (Angela) Thorgilsson, Wendy (Jake) Kulzer, Steven (Sandra) Thorgilsson, Stewart (Carla) Thorgilsson, Gayle Honke, Deanne (Chris) Dubyts, Vicki (Bryan) Thorgilsson, Jodie Thorgilsson and Michael Thorgilsson; five great-grandchildren, Nicole, Taylor, Sydney, Kaelen, and Kendall; brothers, Hjortur (Judy) Benjaminson, Halli (Jose) Benjaminson, Numi Benjaminson; sisters, Asa Jennings and Margaret Gravel; one sister-in-law Emily Benjaminson; also many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Norman on March 8, 1989; one brother Andres in infancy and brother Gunnlauger Benjaminson; two sisters, Christine Cranton and Inga Sigurdson. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lundar Community Hall with Rev. Donna J. Smalley officiating. Interment to follow in the Otto Cemetery. Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Wade, Steven, Stewart, Michael and Jodie Thorgilsson and Kevin Halldorson. The family wishes to thank Dr. Neil Burnet, nurses and staff and the Lundar Personal Care Home and especially the home care workers who allowed Thora to be at home as long as possible.
