Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINIFRED BURKETT Our mother passed away peacefully on February 17, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital with her daughters by her side. Mom was born on December 15, 1921 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. In 1944 she met and married Lorne Burkett, a Canadian soldier stationed overseas. She boarded the Queen Mary in 1946 to sail to Canada, joining our Dad in Erickson. Mom was always fond of young people and enjoyed the years she spent operating the school canteen at the Erickson Collegiate. She was an avid reader and instilled a love of books in her daughters. Mom was a proud member of the Wandah Rebekah Lodge where she made many cherished friends. Shopping was Moms greatest hobby and she loved nothing better than looking for treasures at a flea market or yard sale. In October 2000 Mom moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Moms passion was her family. She was her daughters greatest fan, advocate and friend. Mom was predeceased by Lorne in 1998, her husband of 53 years. She will remain in the hearts of her daughters, Linda, Karen, Bonnie and Glyniss; her grandchildren, Ian, Bill, Errin, Travis and Heather and her great-granddaughter Serena. Cremation has taken place. A memorial tea will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Erickson Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Erickson and District Regional Library, Erickson, MB R0J 0P0 or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
