MAX COHEN Peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2001 after a courageous battle, Max Cohen passed away at the age of 86 years. He leaves to mourn his children, Beverely (Klaus) of Vienna and Richard (Susan) of Los Angeles, six grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Miriam and Zena and many cherished friends. Max was predeceased by his parents, Fanny and Philip and brothers, Harvey and Ben. Born in New York, Max and his family emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s. After graduation from the University of Manitoba as a Pharmacist in 1939, and prior to embarking on his chosen career, Max as well as his brothers served their adopted Country with distinction during the Second World War in the European Theatre. Upon his return, Max in partnership with his good friend Sam Hershfield operated Main Drugs for many years and later in partnership with his good friend Manuel Morry operated Plaza Drugs in East Kildonan. He was well respected by his peers and many good friends. He was an avid curler, a formidable opponent on the Floor Hockey Rink, and had a passion for cards and cars. Max was a devoted father and a loyal friend and will be sadly missed. Subsequent to his retirement, he devoted many hours to Social Work at Temple Shalom and in recognition for his work he was made an Honouree for life of the Temple. Memorial services will be held at Temple Shalom, 1077 Grant Ave., on Thursday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m., with reception to follow at the Temple. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Cancer Care Society, 675 McDermot Ave., Wpg R3E 0V9 or to a charity of their choice.
