Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNICK POMIALOWSKI In the early hours of Tuesday, March 13, 2001, Nick Pomialowski, in his 99th year, peacefully passed away at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Nick was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1989; three brothers, Iwan, Hnat and Nokolai, and his father and mother, all of Ukraine. Nick was born June 22, 1902 in Teretiew, Rovno, Ukraine, the eldest of four boys. He immigrated to Canada in 1928 and eventually settled in Red Lake, ON. In 1948 he met and married his wife Mary. A skilled shoemaker by trade he opened and operated The Red Lake Shoe Store and Repair Shop for some 30 years. Nick was a well respected member of the community having involvements in the Lions Club, little league baseball and hockey, and enjoyed curling. Nick and his wife retired to Winnipeg in 1973. There he enjoyed many years of gardening, especially nurturing his precious apple trees, lawn bowling and curling with seniors in West Kildonan. He was active in both the Russian and Ukrainian Senior Centres and for the past ten years in particular looked forward to his twice weekly outings with his friends at Park Manor Senior Centre. He also looked forward to his visits to Ukraine as well as having members of his family visit his home in Canada. Nick leaves behind to celebrate his life and cherish his memories son Peter and daughter Marion (Ron Desilets) and his precious grandsons, Aaron and Adam Desilets, all of Winnipeg; numerous relatives in Ukraine as well as many respecting friends. Nick was a strong willed, self determining and self made man. His gentle manner, generous spirit, strength of fortitude and quiet wisdom are legacies left to his family. Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m., the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Interment will take place at a later date. Peter and Marion especially appreciate and give their heartfelt thanks to all Nicks care givers at Park Manor - you truly cared.
