WALTER (WLADYSLAW) OLEJNICZAK Sadly, Walter, beloved husband and father, passed away on March 16, 2001. Walter was born in Novo, Tarnowo, Poznan, Poland on March 14, 1917. Walter left his parents farming estate at an early age to join the Polish army. He attended officer training at military school and pursued his love of history. During the Second World War he became a prisoner of war in Germany where he met his wife Nellie. Walter immigrated to Canada in 1949 and started a new life with his young family. For 35 years he worked as an automotive painter for Community Chev Olds-Vickar. At night he studied at St. Johns High School and Red River Community College. He loved dancing, opera music and playing the violin. Being a family man, he taught his children to fish, hunt, swim and skate. Walter was a long-time parishioner of Holy Ghost Church and a member of the Polish Combatants Association SPK No. 13 and Canadian Legion No. 34. He proudly served two terms as president. During his term his most cherished accomplishment was the unveiling of the Soldier Memorial now at Holy Ghost Cemetery. During his retirement years Walter loved gardening, morning coffee at Garden City Shopping Centre, walking in Birds Hill Park and feeding the ducks in Kildonan Park. He loved to travel to see his children across Canada. He also visited the U.S.A., Australia, Poland and the Mediterranean. Predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nellie; two sons, Dennis (wife Mary) and Edward (wife Dorrie) daughter Elizabeth (husband Joe) grandchildren, Angela (husband Bruno), Derek, Lisa, Kelly, Peter, Megan and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Amanda; many relatives and friends in Canada, U.S.A., Australia and Poland. Prayers will be held, Wednesday, March 21, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, March 22, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
