Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR EVERETT THOMAS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. On March 29, 2001 Art Thomas passed away suddenly at the age of 87. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Holding his memory dearest to their hearts are his devoted daughter Mary-Ann and son-in-law Pat OConnor; grandchildren, Lorraine-Marie and husband Jason, and Anndrea and husband Brad. Others left to cherish his memory are his brothers and sisters, Reg, Mildred, and Florence; numerous nieces and nephews; longtime friend Edie Archer; golfing buddy Pete Wilby; and all the gang from Rathgar Avenue. Art was predeceased by his loving wife Marie, brother Bill, and sister Kae. Art made his debut on January 29, 1914 on Rathgar Avenue where he lived the majority of his life. Despite growing up during The Depression, Art had nothing but fond memories of his childhood. In 1937, he married Marie Alexandria Toyne with whom he enjoyed many memorable, mischievous adventures. In 1947, the family grew with the arrival of their daughter Mary-Ann. Art was a dedicated, hard-working and generous family man who always had time for family and friends. His working life included service in the Navy, as well as 37 and one half years with the Winnipeg Fire Department, where he retired as an Assistant Deputy Chief in 1979. Following retirement, he took great joy in spending time with his granddaughters; this meant numerous road trips to Marine Corps bases up and down the eastern seaboard. When they returned to Winnipeg, Art transformed into everyones "Papa", number one fan and chauffeur extraordinaire. He also enjoyed curling and was a member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club for many years. However, his true love was golf. As a lifetime member of the Rat River Golf Course, he was counting down the days until he could hit the links this spring on his private, remodelled, now "fire-proof" golf cart. Art had an undeniable zest for life and his strength was both remarkable and endless. The family gratefully acknowledges Dr. Hugh Smith, and the ICU Staff at Concordia Hospital for their gentle and caring ways. Viewing will take place on Sunday, April 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. We will be celebrating his life on Monday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m., also in Thomson Funeral Chapels. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
