GERALD ELGIN NICHOLAT Peacefully on April 27, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Gerald Elgin Nicholat passed away at age 53 years. Gerald is survived and will be sadly missed by his parents, William and Emily of Wadena, SK; brother Larry of Edmonton; sister Sharon of Regina; brother Arne, sister-in-law Sandy and their children, Karli, Levi, Brandi, Bobbi and Charli of Saskatoon; and many dear friends, especially Roy, Val, Ron, Marv and Dominique, Mike and Diana, Dennis and Dorothy; and his special four-legged buds, Cleo, Oscar, Caleb, Monster, and Max. We seldom ask for miracles, But today just one would do. To have the front door open And see you walking through. A hundred times weve missed you, A hundred times we cried. If love could have saved you, You never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a memory That no one else can fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you. We know we will see you again When we are called home. Forever in our hearts, - love, "your entire family." Gerald was born on October 3, 1947 in Rose Valley, SK. He moved with his parents and older brother from the Ponass Lake District farm to the Town of Nora in 1953. In 1963 the family moved to the farm in the Nora area. He completed grades 1 to 9 in Nora and finished his schooling in Archerwill after which he attended Moose Jaw Tech for one year. He started his career with Co-op Implements in 1966 in Kincaid, moving to Swift Current and finally to head office in Winnipeg in 1975 (where he became known as Gerry). In 1988 he started his own business of cabinet and furniture crafting. After the business was destroyed by fire in 1995 he went to work for Pak Mark as a flexographic printing supervisor, to the time of his illness. Gerry strived for perfection and doing the best job possible in everything he did... building his own house boat on which he and many friends enjoyed very memorable times; scuba diving for his own pleasure and for Manitoba Power, the police, Aqua Tech and Three Fathoms; building the cabin and dock on the island at Myrtle Rapids, ON; his many special "carpentry jobs" which his friends will forever treasure; building his own fireplace mantel and hearth, furniture and sun room... where many enjoyed his roaring fires. The family would like to express their gratitude and sincere appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Centre (especially Orit) Riverview Health Centre and St. Boniface Hospital; and to his many friends for their special care of and concern and compassion for Gerald during the past nine months that he valiantly lived with his brain tumour; never losing his unique and constant sense of humour or concern for others. Cremation will take place with scattering of his ashes at a later date at his cabin and the lake he loved. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to your local palliative care units in his memory. "Dear Gerald, you were a most caring and loving person who brought much joy and laughter into the lives of all you touched. You lived a rich and full life." Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
