BERNA ELIZABETH BOYLE (nee HARGREAVES) With sadness and regret, the Boyle family wishes to announce the death of Berna peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 2, 2001. Berna, born on October 25, 1922, in Silverton, MB, moved at an early age to Kenton, where she received her education and participated in every activity that was available in small town Manitoba. Her lifelong appreciation of the Arts began with her childhood lessons in piano, voice and dancing, especially the Scottish Sword Dance. Bernas greatest love was sports. She excelled at Track and Field, enjoyed tennis and golf, but her special passion was shortstop on the softball team. After graduation from high school, Berna moved to Neepawa to study nursing, receiving her certificate as an R.N. in 1945. She then nursed at several Winnipeg hospitals, doing private nursing as well. Later Berna joined the hospital nursing staff in Souris, where her mother was then residing. In 1948, marriage to Jack Boyle brought Berna back to Neepawa where she lived out her life a life which included numerous volunteer activities. Berna was an active worker for her church but did not confine her enthusiasm to just that. Her love and concern for children brought her into school classrooms to read to children and saw her work on the Parent Council, the Community Schools Program and on the Holiday Festival of the Arts. She never forgot the elderly, though, and served for many years on the Board of HAND and East View Lodge. As a former nurse, she gladly worked on the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and of course, was always present to help with Blood Donor Clinics. Berna will be missed by many, but most of all by Jack, her husband of 52 years; her daughters, Catherine, Frances and Janet; and sons, Terry, Dennis and Michael, their spouses; and 16 grandchildren. Berna is also survived by brothers, Garry of Brandon, Jack of Saskatoon and Norris of Kelowna and their spouses and families. The funeral mass was con-celebrated at St. Dominics Roman Catholic Church by Fathers Y. Gamallo and A. Seaman. Bernas grandchildren participated in all aspects of the funeral, acting as pallbearers, ushers, readers and gift bearers. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. The family would like to thank Dr. Chapman and the staff at Neepawa Memorial Hospital for their caring and competence. A special thanks is extended to the Home Care workers whose efforts made it possible for Berna to be at home where she most wanted to be.
