Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. ERNEST W. RAMSEY F.R.C.S.C. September 24, 1938- June 5, 2001 Peacefully, at home on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 surrounded by his family, Ernest Ramsey passed away. Diane, his wife of 33 years, and his children, Ian, Clare and Kathy will lovingly remember him. He will be sorely missed by his brothers and sisters - Jackie (Mary) of Los Angeles, Annette (Jack Chestnutt) of Vancouver, Cameron (Joan), Eleanor (Albert Rankin), Lorraine (Bill Wylie), and Yvonne (Shaun Doherty) all of Northern Ireland, and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, Cameron and Eileen, and father-in-law William Thompson, but will be remembered with affection by dear mother-in-law Ida. Ernie was born in Larne, Northern Ireland and received his medical degree from Queens University Belfast in 1963. He excelled in his undergraduate studies, receiving several gold medals and scholarships. He immigrated to Canada in 1970 to complete his urology training at Queens University in Kingston and moved to Winnipeg in 1972. Ernie had a distinguished career in urology both nationally and internationally. He was president of the Canadian Urological Association, founding chair of the Canadian Prostate Health Council and surgical director of the Manitoba Renal Transplant Program. As professor of urology at the University of Manitoba, Ernie enjoyed all aspects of his career including patient care, research, and, above all, teaching. With his special interest in prostate cancer, he spearheaded the current development of the Manitoba Prostate Centre. Sadly, Ernie will not see the completion of that dream. A lover of music, Ernie was a gifted pianist who often entertained friends with his playing. Always active, he played rugby in his youth and, later on, tennis and squash. Through his dynamic interests, Ernie made many enduring friendships. We wish to thank Drs. Maksymiuk, Lipschitz, Brandes, and Israels for their compassionate care, and the staff of Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare Manitoba for their kindness, in particular Mary Thliveris R.N. Heartfelt thanks to friends and family who were supportive throughout this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. in Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Prostate Centre, in care of CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
