MARIE POKORNA It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Pokorna, aged 75years, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Ward, with her family by her side. Marie will be greatly missed by her son Richard and his wife Bernice; granddaughters, Sylvia and fiance Danny, Carol and fiance Steve; brother George Shelepec; as well as all her family and friends in Winnipeg and the Czech Republic. She was predeceased by her daughter, parents and brother. She was born in the Czech Republic and came to Canada in 1981. Marie was a warm-hearted person who gave all of herself to both her family and friends. Her warm smile, tender touch and giving spirit will be missed by all. In compliance with Maries wishes, a private family gathering will be held. Our family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, especially the Palliative Care Unit and the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in Maries memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division), 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to any medical research institution.
