IRENE RAMSAY Irene Ramsay, aged 89 years, of Grand Forks, BC, passed away Friday, July 6, 2001 at Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson, BC. She was born August 10, 1911 in Winnipeg, MB, the daughter of Frederick and Emma Nunn. She grew up and received her schooling in Winnipeg. She worked for the Province of Manitoba for a number of years. On August 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to William W. Ramsay in Winnipeg. They made their home in Winnipeg until 1976 when they moved to Grand Forks, BC, where they spent their summers. They lived in Thousand Palms, CA during the winters. Irene dedicated her life to the Order of Eastern Star, progressing up to become Worthy Grand Matron in Manitoba. She belonged to St. Johns Chapter of O.E.S. in Winnipeg. She was very active in Jobs Daughters, getting several Bethels established in Manitoba and organizing charter trips to various overseas places. She also was an excellent seamstress and loved gardening. Irene was predeceased by her parents, and her husband William (1996). She is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Nunn of Grand Forks, and Orma Orris-Weiss of Nelson; several nieces and nephews, including Dawn Smith (John) of Nelson; and many grand-nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at Toews Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorial donations may be made to International Peace Gardens, Box 419, Boissevain, MB for the upkeep of the picnic shelter.
