EMELINE JOY POLLARD Peacefully on July 19, 2001 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Emeline Joy Pollard, aged 98 years of Ashern, MB. Mom was born on August 3, 1903 in Winnipeg, MB. Joy was eight years old when they came to the Ashern area and homesteaded in the Pioneer District. She married Arthur Pollard in 1929. For a short period of time the family moved to Stonewall for four years. When Arthur re-enlisted for the Second World War, the family moved to Winnipeg. This is where Joy worked at the Eatons mail order. When she retired from Eatons, she sold her house but continued to make Winnipeg her home. In May of 1991, she moved to the Ashern Personal Care Home where she lived for the past 10 years. In younger years, she was known to be an excellent seamstress. She was a very gifted and ambitious person. She could make a beautiful meal with very little to work with. Joy was the "foundation of the family" who was always there to help her family or others. She is survived by her daughter Joy Marie (Leonard) Fowell; her son Raymond (Theresa) Irwin; 12 grandchildren, Richard, Elaine, Loree, Irene, Lori, Joy, Janice, Julie, Randy, Gregory, Steve and Linda; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother Fred and a sister-in-law Ida Otto of Ashern, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Joy was predeceased by her husband Arthur who was a Veteran of the First World War and Second World War; her parents, Fredrick and Marie Otto; a brother (in infancy) Henry; brothers, Harry, Ralph, Bill, August, Eddy; sisters, Minnie, Emma and Edna. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 23 at the Ashern Gospel Chapel with Pastor Ivor Grant officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment to follow in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fritz Plohman, Franklin Plohman, Milton Otto, Gordon Otto, Ralph Otto and Jim Otto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Runa Mangl, General Delivery, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 with the following notation: "to be used for the Ashern Personal Care Home". A heartfelt thank you from our family to the Ashern Personal Care Home and the doctors, nurses and staff who looked after our Mom over the years. You folks will never be forgotten.
