MILTON RABINOVITCH Milton Rabinovitch, of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 19, 2001. Born in Morden, MB in 1909, he was the son of pioneers David and Sonia Rabinovitch. A loving husband and father, he was known to all for his compassion, generosity, and sparkling sense of humour. Milton worked with his father from an early age, and in 1927 opened Rabinovitch Bros., a family clothing store in Morden. He was proud to have operated one of Manitobas longest running family enterprises, in business for nearly 100 years. In 1960 he moved his young family to Winnipeg, where he began Milton Footwear Ltd., which became an institution in the Exchange District for the next 30 years. In the late 1990s, he enjoyed a small business revival specializing in vintage clothing. Miltons community service included terms as Chairman of the Board of the Morden Community Hospital, President of the Morden Board of Trade, and general manager of the Morden junior hockey team. He was a life member and past master of the Morden branch of the Masonic Lodge. Always interested in nature, as a young man he worked at the Dominion Experimental Farm in Morden, and maintained a lifelong passion for horticulture and gardening. He was widely read, particularly in history, and he was an avid bridge player. Milton is survived by Sheila, his wife of 55 years; his son David and wife Marsha of Seattle; daughter Sandra Rabinovitch and husband Dr. Uri Sagman of Toronto; daughter Celia Rabinovitch of San Francisco; and by his grandchildren, Zara Rabinovitch, and Gabriel, Reuben, and Nathaniel Sagman. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Pallbearers are Dr. Uri Sagman, Neil Cohen, Dr. Paul Portnuff, Robbie Gabor, Sol Schacter and Richard Freeman. Honorary pallbearers are Vic Burgess, Alan Hamilton, Dr. Leonard Karr, Ramsay Monaghan, Phil Schacter, Andy Schwartz and Milton Yudell.
