MARGUERITE LOUISE BECKSTEAD (nee COLTER) Marguerite Louise Beckstead (nee Colter) was born in Crystal City, MB on January 14, 1919 and passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary, AB on September 21, 2001. Marguerite was married to Clarence Edwin (Ted) Beckstead for 54 years. Although in the last few years her body was frail, her mind and spirit were always strong. Marguerite pushed herself and everyone around her to learn new things, believing that you should learn something new every day. She challenged herself by memorizing favourite poems, and in the last year could recite the inscription found on the Statue of Liberty. Marguerite worked in a law office as a young woman, as a pre-school teacher, and at the Kiwanis Music Festival as well as being a homemaker and parent who truly enriched the lives of her children and grandchildren. She had a lifelong love of music, and sang in many Calgary choirs including the Choral Society, the Choral Belles, and Wesley United Church Choir. She sang in Handels Messiah, Beethovens 9th Symphony and many Gilbert and Sullivan productions. Marguerite could make us laugh with a good story, give us a word of encouragement when we needed it and was always able to speak her mind. Marguerite will be sadly missed by her husband Ted; her children, Jamie (Mora), Patty (Denis), Douglas (Andrienne) and her grandchildren, Claire, Paul and Jocelyn; as well as her sister Erma Howes of Lethbridge, together with many nieces and nephews. Marguerite was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Barbara Colter; her brothers, Orville, Karl and James Colter; and her sister Olive Couch. Funeral services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAYS "Chapel of the Bells", 2720 Centre St. N.), on Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. Don Wright of Wesley United Church officiating.
