HELEN PORTER (nee DERHAK) Suddenly on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at her residence, Helen passed away at the age of 77 years. Left to cherish her memory are her son Ken (Darlene) sister Ina (Leo) Hurd; brothers, Steve (Helen) Derhak and Walter (Jean) Derhak; special friend Jerry Havlik; three grandchildren, Kerry, Christopher and Kelsey and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John and her son Douglas. Helen was born in Shoal Lake, MB on April 7, 1924. She grew up on a farm in Sandy Lake, MB and moved to the city after finishing high school where she married and raised a family. She was employed as a real estate agent with Abbey Realty in the early Sixties, then worked for Grey Goose Bus Lines up to her retirement. She took great pride in her grandchildren always interested to learn of their latest accomplishments. She enjoyed playing crib, and Skip Bo with her neighbour Terri. She was a great cook with the family always looking forward to dinner at "Babas". She was also a baseball fan (loved those Toronto Blue Jays), and was a loyal fan of her son and his Slo Pitch team for the last 14 years. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick and St. Jude Anglican Church, 612 Valour Rd. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1Z3. Mom, Grandma, you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
