CHANA POLLOCK Chana Pollock passed away on February 17, 2002. She was born in 1904 in Ivangorod, Ukraine. In 1936 Chana married Lev Gelparin. They were married for only six years when in 1942, Lev died during the siege of Leningrad. Chana was a very independent woman and highly-educated; a teacher of language and literature. She was a modern thinker, and after immigrating to Canada in 1976 to join her brothers, Sam, Jack and John Pollock, she continued to study, attending classes and cultural events, and adapted well to life in Winnipeg. Chana was later joined here by her sister and brother-in-law, Taubel and Mottel Guner and their sons, Dr. Mischa Guner and Dr. Issie Guner and their families. She was predeceased by all of her brothers and her sister in Canada, as well as her sisters, Chaika, Sarah and Shindel in Russia, and by her nephew, Dr. Willie Groisberg. Loved and respected by all who knew her, she is survived by her sister-in-law Anne Pollock, 12 loving nieces and nephews and their children, and by many cousins. Funeral services were held at Chesed Shel Emes on February 19, 2002, with burial in Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Her pallbearers were her grandnephews, Martin Pollock, Joseph Pollock, Jeff Guner, Neil Kravetsky, Dr. Paul Kowall and Dr. Bradley Pollock.
