FRANK WESTON HALL QUESNEL On Friday, April 12, 2002, Frank Weston Hall Quesnel, late of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, and formerly of Esterhazy, SK, passed away peacefully at the Lamont Health Care Centre after a courageous struggle with cancer. Born September 24, 1917, at Manigotogan, MB, Frank was predeceased by his wife Mary (Betty) Dixon (nee Harrop) Quesnel (1997) parents Alvira (nee Reade) Quesnel (1966) and Oswald Louis Quesnel (1971) his sister Margaret (Peggy) Louise Wylie (1968) brothers William (Bud) Reid Quesnel (1995), John (Jack) Albert Quesnel (1950), and Theodore (Teddie) Dale Quesnel (1967) and his grandson Anthony Michael Frank Quesnel (1988). He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Margaret (Robin) McDougall of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, and Janet (Michael Carruthers) of Hills, BC; his three sons, John (June) of Regina, Robert (Irene) of Prince Albert, and Timothy (Nicky) of Edmonton; his 11 grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Roberta, Gregory, Adam, Meghan, Linda, Peter, Cameron, Benjamin, and Carolynne; his sister Alma Corinne Boulette; and numerous nephews and nieces. Frank first worked in a lumber mill and as a logger. During the Second World War Frank volunteered as a soldier in the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry and the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He served in Canada, England, and following D-Day, throughout western Europe for the duration. He met Betty Harrop who was in the Womens Royal Naval Service. They married November 10, 1945 in England. After the war they made their first homes in Geraldton, ON where Frank was a gold miner. In 1952 he was buried alive underground, suffering massive injuries to his back and jaw. After his recovery he worked in the refinery making gold bricks. In 1956 the family moved to Elliot Lake, ON where Frank was a shift foreman at a uranium mine. In 1962, Frank became a maintenance planning supervisor at IMC (International Minerals and Chemical Corporation), Yarbo, SK, and the family of five children moved to Esterhazy. Frank retired from IMC in 1982. In his leisure time he enjoyed golf, curling and reading. He had a lifetime membership in the Royal Canadian Legion serving the Esterhazy Branch as treasurer and in numerous colour parties. Frank and Betty loved life and each other. They visited many parts of the continental United States, Bermuda, Bahamas, England and Hawaii. In the joy of many friends, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 10, 1995 at Esterhazy. After Bettys death, Frank moved to Fort Saskatchewan to live first with his daughter Margaret and then at Dr. Turner Lodge, a couple blocks from Margarets home. With the need for increased care, Frank moved to the Health Care Centre in nearly Lamont. Frank was a loving husband, generous father, and proud grandfather. Kind and gentle, he has a wonderful sense of humour. Frank will be remembered fondly by the many people touched by his life. A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church in Esterhazy with Father Rick Krofchek, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Marys R.C. Cemetery in Esterhazy. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1470 Wascana St., Regina, SK, S4T 4J5 would be appreciated by the family.
