DARLENE ANN THOMAS Peacefully passed away at Selkirk General Hospital on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was the loving mother of son David and sister to Gary Hamilton (Pat). She isalso survived by her daughter Meredith Darnell (Laurie), niece Tricia, nephew Craig, numerous cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Alice Hamilton. Darlene was born in Winnipeg, August 25, 1936, grew up and was educated in St. James. As a child, she was an accomplished accordionist, having played numerous performances around the city including with the St. James Symphony Orchestra. Her love of music continued into her adulthood and she had been a member of the Winnipeg Chapter of Sweet Adelines. She was employed by the federal government in medical records at Deer Lodge Hospital and retired from the Department of Employment and Immigration in 1990. She spent many happy retirement years wintering in Mesa and summering at Mordens Meadows until her illness. Darlene was a good mom, a loving, caring sister and aunt and a great dog lover all her life. She will be missed. Special thanks to Gloria McDonald and all the homecare workers, nursing staff and doctors who provided excellent care to Darlene over the years. Darlene was very grateful for the excellent services provided by the Manitoba Health Care System. Her gratitude came straight from her heart. Cremation has taken place. A memorial reception for family and friends celebrating Darlenes life will be held in Salon A of the Assiniboine Gordon Inn, 1975 Portage Ave., on Sunday, April 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON109, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0B9 or to the "Tree of Hope", Selkirk District and General Hospital, 100 Easton Dr., Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2.
