Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DONALD THOMSON 1925 - 2002 With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, John, on Tuesday, June 11, 2002. Predeceased by his parents, Donald and Harriet; his wife Joyce; daughter Linda; and sister Kae. At the early age of 16, Dad began a lifelong association with The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, attaining the rank of Sergeant-Major before retiring. In 1947, Dads sister Kae introduced him to the love of his life. Mom and Dad were married on February 25, 1950 and enjoyed 29 years of married life. Her passing remained the heartache of his life. In the early 1970s, Dad taught himself to play the bagpipes and joined the Pipe Band, fulfilling his lifelong passion. After years of varied employment, Dad started his career with CP Rail, retiring in 1981. Dad was a longtime member of St. Johns Ambulance and was a certified trainer. In retirement, he became an avid golfer, bowler and curler. Having left school at an early age, Dad became an enthusiastic reader, especially anything regarding the Second World War or Scotland. Dad was able to travel to Scotland playing St. Andrews with a score of 69! He also enjoyed golfing in Arizona. Dad was a Mason at Cornerstone Lodge, a member of St. James Legion and a founding member of the Widow or Widowers Group. Dad was a regular at Club 66, he loved to dance. Dad will be greatly missed by his family, Heather and Bill Loreth (Carly and Jennifer), Pat Thomson and Gord Aubrey (Kathy Stokoloff), Doug (John and James), Don (Kellie and Scott) and son Bruce who had been Dads devoted caregiver; Lindas children, Dianna Penner and Jason Kostovetsky; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Michelle and Amara Penner. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Anne; sisters, Emily and Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Hospital (5N) for their care and compassion. Also much thanks to John from home care. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to Deer Lodge Centre. Cremation has taken place and at Dads request there will be no service. The family invites all of Dads friends and family to join them in an afternoon of reminiscing on Monday, June 17, at St. James Legion upper hall, 1775 Portage Ave., between 1:00 and 4:00 oclock.
