J.P. (PETER) THOMAS Peter died peacefully at home after many years of treatment for Prostate Cancer, on Sunday, June 23, 2002. He was born in Otaki, New Zealand in 1927 and spent his early years in Wellington. Peter had great pleasure in attending his Otahuhu High School reunion in Auckland in March 2001. Peter travelled in Europe and came to Canada in 1952, where he married Ruth Allison in Winnipeg on October, 1954. After working in Kitimat, B.C. and at Westeel in Winnipeg, Peter became a partner and eventual sole owner of Wearing-Williams Ltd. in 1978. He sold the business and retired in 1988. Peter and Ruth enjoyed winters camping in Mexico and visiting family in New Zealand where he is survived by sister Rei; and brothers, Grant (Alison) and Perry (Shona). Active in Toastmasters, the Down Under Club, and Childrens Hospital Book Market and always a keen fisherman, he will be remembered for his friendliness, humour, generosity, and his sense of adventure. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth, of 47 years of marriage; his son Ralph (Maureen) his daughter Averil (Doug) and his beloved six granddaughters A Memorial Service will be held in Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road, Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th. Our grateful thanks to two extraordinary caring doctors, Dr. Jamie Boyd and Dr. Cy Stein and the compassionate palliative care nurses.
