Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLAFUR (OLI) THORLACIUS November 4, 1935 - July 4, 2002 With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Olafur (Oli) Thorlacius, aged 66, loving husband, father and brother at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Ashern, MB. Oli was born on the SE 1/4 of 23-25-9W in the R.M. of Siglunes where he lived all his life on the family farm. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carolyn; daughter Barbara (Ed) Pschulski; sons, Bradley and Arne; daughter, Cheryl (fiance Steve Taylor) brothers, Agnar (Gwen), Jon (Sandi) sisters-in-law, Doreen (Ernest), Bev (Paul) brothers-in-law, Wilfred, Neil (Anna) special Aunt Helen Thorlacius; mother-in-law, Mae (Ralph) Poston; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends. Oli was predeceased by his parents Olafur D. and Sigurveig (Sigga) brother Sigurberg (Beggi) nephew Adam Thorlacius and father-in-law Arne Brandstrom. Oli attended the Ralph Connor School. He fished and trapped with his father, brother Agnar and others. He enjoyed travelling, hunting, fishing, curling, baseball and a good game of cards with family and friends. His favourite pastime was sitting around the table having coffee with family and friends and exchanging stories. Oli was always ready with a cute remark and was known for his quick wit, snappy comebacks and one-liners. In 1979, Oli married Carolyn Klepatz (Brandstrom) and continued to farm on the family homestead. He was extremely proud of all his children, nieces and nephews and was keenly interested in everything they did. He always had time to listen and offer good advice. Oli was an active member of the community and served on numerous boards. Oli was extremely proud of his Icelandic heritage and loved nothing better than to have a good Icelandic conversation, which often included a rhyme or limerick. Although his disease took a physical toll on him, his spirit, faith and love remained strong. Friends and relatives may pay their respects at the Arnason Funeral Home, Ashern, MB, between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Ashern, MB, with Pastor Terry Thronson officiating. Viewing to be held at the Church one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Betel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Johnson, Randy Kolomaya, Gary Koops, Gordon McDougall, Ron Skatfeld and Eric Thorlacius. All others in the congregation should consider themselves honorary pallbearers with special mention to Lawrence Thorlacius, Ron McDougall, Bud Stefansson, B.R. Johnson and G. Thomas Barnes. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada, 204-825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, the Betel Church c/o Grace Lutheran Church, Box 240 Ashern, MB or a charity of your choice. His weary hours and days of pain, His troubled nights are past, And in our aching hearts we know, He has found sweet rest at last.
