GEORGE REGINALD PROVOST Peacefully, after a courageous two year battle with cancer, and surrounded by his family, it is with great regret that we announce the passing of George Reginald Provost on July 17, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital. He was 65 years old. George was born August 11, 1936 in Harris, SK and was a longtime resident of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Lilliane. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Dorothy (nee Bullard) and five children, Brian (Desta), Debi, Terry (Catherine), Shelley (Ben), and Jeffrey (Donna). He also leaves 11 grand-children, Morgan, Monique, Tom, Nicole, Michael, Jason, Matthew, Jordan, Bradyn, Ian, and Henry; as well as two great-grandchildren, Misty and Melanie. George was well known in the community and had a diverse and successful career in business and government. He was a former Alderman with the City of St. Boniface and served as a Councillor for the City of Winnipeg. Helping others is what he enjoyed the most. Besides his political achievements, George was an entrepreneur who spent many years self-employed in the promotions and publishing fields. George was a founding member of the St. Bernadette Mens Club and had a life membership in the Knights of Columbus. He spent many years active in the Scouting movement and enjoyed a variety of outdoor hobbies including hunting and fishing. He was happiest when close to nature, a passion he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. George also enjoyed gardening and discussing politics with friends and family. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadettes Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd., with Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres. Special thank you to the wonderful staff at CancerCare and the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital for their sincere care and sharing of their special gifts with him. George enjoyed your late night talks and they gave him comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Scouts Canada. "For everything there is a season ... a time to be born, and a time to die."
