HERBERT WILHELM HAGEN On July 18, 2002, at Concordia Hospital at 3:00 a.m., Herbert Hagen, beloved husband of Waltraut Hagen, died at the age of 77 years. He is now resting forever after a mercifully short illness and a wonderfully full life. Herbert immigrated to Canada from Cuxhaven, Germany in 1956, bringing with him his wife Waltraut and children, Frieda and Joachim; soon to be joined by his Canadian born son Rolf. Throughout his life he was known for an unfaltering work ethic applied to his careers, first in the shipbuilding trade and later the carpentry and cement finishing industry. He was known above all for his respect and nurturing of our environment and mother nature; this love expressed in part by his spruce trees at his cottage on the Lee River, and his activities with the St. Hubertus Club at the German Society of Winnipeg. Herbert was ultimately at peace camping with his family or fishing in Whiteshell Provincial Park. He is survived by his wife Waltraut; his sons, Joachim and Rolf; his daughter-in-law Lena; and his grandchildren, Adam, Candace, Eric and Sherry. He also leaves behind his brothers, Jurgen and Gunther in Cuxhaven, Germany. He was predeceased by his daughter Frieda. Special thanks to the patient and caring staff of Concordia Hospital. There will be a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22, in the Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. A reception will be held after interment at No. 2 - 408 Wellington Cresc. If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Dad, we are proud to be sailors sons. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
