FRANK PORZNAK On the morning of August 13, 2002, surrounded by the love of his family, Frank passed away peacefully at the age of 74 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years, Elsie. Frank was particularly proud of his three daughters and his three special sons-in-law, whom he considered his own, Patricia and Murray, Linda and Kevin, and Paula and Lyndon; and his four grandchildren, Michael and Julie Ternovetsky, and Kate and Scott Davidson, whom he adored. Frank also leaves his sisters, Mildred, Pauline (Ralph), and Jean (Ed) and sisters-in-law, Anne, Olga, and Ilene. He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Anne, and his brother Stanley. Frank was born on October 5, 1927 in St. Andrews, where he lived his entire life. In 1952, he met the love of his life, Elsie Herdy, and together they raised their three daughters. Frank enjoyed celebrating his girls accomplishments, and those of their families. Frank worked in the brewery industry for 40 years, retiring from Labatts in 1992. He was a real character who loved a good time. Anyone who met him remembered him! Franks joys were his family, his garden, his yard, and "home fix-it projects". He believed that any job worth starting is a job worth finishing...today. Along with Elsie, Frank took great pride in maintaining his property meticulously. There was never a weed to be found in Franks garden, and his tomatoes turned red before anyone elses! Dad faced his cancer with strength, courage, and an undaunting spirit. He was happiest at home, and was able to remain there throughout his 2 year illness with the loving care provided by his "nurse" Mom. Dad only required hospital care for the last four days of his life. The family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, especially Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk and his nurse Mona, the Health Sciences Emergency staff, and the staff on D4 for the compassionate care he received and for allowing him to maintain his dignity until his death. Prayers will be said on Sunday, August 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Gonor, MB with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment of ashes to follow in the churchyard cemetery. His urn bearers will be grandsons Michael and Scott. Should friends so desire, donations in Franks memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9. REST IN PEACE Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
