JO-ANN ELAINE STEVENS- PURTILL March 1, 1959 - August 19, 2002 It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jo-Ann Elaine on August 19, 2002. Dearly beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be sadly missed by her precious daughter Cassandra (nine) husband Patrick Purtill; mother Florence Stevens; father John and wife Sherine Stevens; brother Derek Stevens; sisters, Karen Arnold (Gerald), Gayle Stevens, and Lara Buffie (Jim). Her nieces, nephews and many other relatives including Patricks mother Lorraine; brother Michael; sisters, Theresa, Janice, Colleen; friends and neighbours. Jo-Ann became an inspiration to us all through her courageous four-year battle with cancer. She chose to live life to its fullest, devoting much of her love to her family, especially her daughter Cassandra. Jo-Anns love of gardening was also apparent. The flowers blooming in their yard symbolize Jo-Ann in their beauty. Throughout Jo-Anns illness she continued to participate in school and neighbourhood activities such as: volunteering/baking for Cassandras school; Book Club; supper club; organizing and hosting annual Christmas, Halloween, and block parties. She also took an active role in Chemo-Savvy, Dragon Boat racing, and The Run for the Cure. Jo-Anns gracious hospitality was well known by anyone who visited in Patricks and her home. Her door was always open and she will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Riverview Health Centre, as well as to the many friends and neighbours for their tremendous support. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, 1771 Pembina Hwy. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in Jo-Anns memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity of your choice. Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without words, And never stops at all. - Emily Dickinson
