HELENA PURVES Helena Purves, at the age of 86, was called to be with her Lord and Savior, in the early morning hours of August 26, 2002. She was predeceased by her husband William Purves in 1966; her sister Elizabeth; her mother and her father; and brothers, Abraham and Jacob. Helena leaves to celebrate her transition to Heaven, her son Robert Purves; daughter Donna Wetzel (Dean) and grandsons, Ian and Sam Wetzel. As well she will be sorely missed by sisters, Katherena, Marie, Eva, Agatha, and Susanna; as well as brothers, Peter and John. Also the many "adopted" sons and daughters that passed through her life, and stayed. Mother was a lifelong servant of Christ, and a member of Bethel Tabernacle Pentecostal Church for all her adult life, as well as being the church caretaker for 17 years. As a caring part of her community she was part of the driving force behind the Food Buyers Club at St. Matthess Anglican Church. She was a woman who could never say no to anyone who needed her help, or any help she could find for them. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Pastor Charles Kiefling officiating. There will be an opportunity to pay last respects before the service from 2:30 p.m. till 2:55 p.m. The family would like to especially thank all the staff on ward GA4 at the HSC for their over the top care and compassion for Mom during her last two weeks.
