Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABELL MAY MEFFEN (nee DUCKLOW) May 17, 1928 - October 2, 2002 From God we come and to Him we return. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of our sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and beloved widow of James Meffen at the Grace Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Eileen Allan and Dorothy Harvie; sister-in-law Elizabeth Whalen; brother-in-law Edward and wife Elsie; her many nieces and nephews, cousins and longtime friends. Isabell was born in Fort Francis, ON, on May 17, 1928, and moved to Manitoba with her parents as an infant. She met her lifetime love, James Meffen, at Ladysmith, MB, after he returned from the war. They were married in May of 1950 and lived in Portage la Prairie for approximately one year. They moved to Winnipeg in 1957 and she lived in Winnipeg for the rest of her life. James passed away in October 1993 leaving Isabell on her own. She resided in the Odd Fellows Care Home for four years, 1993 to 1997, and in the Golden West Centennial Lodge since September 1997. Isabell indulged her nieces and nephews by teaching them to dance with her lighter-than-air style, playing their favourite tunes on the piano or organ, providing a place to live for those from out of town, and letting them stay over for a summer holiday which always included lunch out and a movie downtown. Isabell found enjoyment in many things. She enjoyed hearing a good joke but liked telling one even more. Most of all she loved visits from her family. Many thanks to her sisters Eileen and Dorothy for their faithful visits. Isabell cherished her sisters. Heartfelt thanks to Susan Edie and husband Ken for the years of selfless giving and loving care. Isabell often spoke of her appreciation and love for them both and felt Susan was the daughter she never had. She touched everyones life in a special way and her passing will leave a large void for all. Memorial service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Monday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
