CHARLES GRANT COURAGE Peacefully, on October 26, 2002, Charlie Courage passed away at the age of 94. Charlie was predeceased by his loving wife Mae in October, 2000. He was also predeceased by his father and mother, William and Isabella, as well as his two brothers, Jim and Bill. He will be sadly missed by his family, including his two sons, Ken (Myrna) of Gainesville, FL and Gord (Kathy Ahlbaum) of Winnipeg; his grandchildren, Drew and Marnie of Winnipeg, Carson of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Christie Wiltse (Justin) of Atlanta; and his great-granddaughter, Isobel. He also leaves numerous nephews and nieces, including his best friend, Chay Courage of Gloucester, England. Charlie was born near Aberdeen, Scotland, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 14. He was employed by the CNR for all of his working life except for the depression years and five years of military service during the Second World War, including overseas service as a Sergeant with the RCAF. He retired from the CNR in 1969. During their retirement years, Charlie and Mae spent 24 winters in New Smryna Beach, FL where they enjoyed some of their happiest times. In Florida, he was a member of the Artists Workshop, which allowed him to further develop his considerable skills as a painter. Charlie will be remembered as being a man of conviction and principle who was staunchly dedicated to his wife and family. Many thanks go to the nursing and support staff of the third floor of the Victoria Hospital for their kind and professional care during the last two months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at 11:30 a.m., at the Neil Bardal Funeral Chapel, 984 Portage Ave. at Aubrey Street.
