DOROTHY ELIZABETH POWELL 1921-2002 Peacefully, on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital, Dorothy Powell, aged 80 years. Dorothy was born on December 20, 1921 in Winnipeg. She served with the Canadian Wrens in the Second World War where she met her late husband Norman. They were married in England on November 11, 1944 and moved back to Canada and raised a family on the west coast. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Norman; her parents, George and Elizabeth Thompson; brothers, Jack and Frank; her sister Beth; and niece Phyllis. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Michael and Douglas (Dawn) daughter Judith; and her beloved granddaughters, Elizabeth and Samantha; sister Mary Thompson; brother Tom (Margaret) sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Geof) and Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy moved to Gimli in 1973 with her husband Norm where she lived a very active life devoting herself to doing volunteer work in the community. She enjoyed life especially her friends, church, golf and playing bridge. A celebration of Dorothys life will be held on Monday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Bartholomews Anglican Church in Winnipeg Beach with Rev. Ken Pawluk officiating. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Drs. and nursing staff of the Johnson Memorial Hospital for the care shown to Dorothy.
