WALTER PTASHYNSKY April 11, 1937 - November 23, 2002 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Ptashynsky on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. Born in Chatfield, MB on April 11, 1937 Walter attended the Chatfield Wheathill School. At an early age he left home to work in various road construction projects in Manitoba. His adventure finally led him to Edmonton where he made his home for the next 22 years. Walter had a passion for the North. It was here that he would embark on his lifelong dream of blazing trails where no man has gone. He worked as far north as the Beaufort Sea. He contributed to projects such as the Alaskan Highway and the Dempster and Echo Bay Mine Projects. Walter was highly respected for his work and indeed was considered one of the best in Canada. It was during this time away that he developed many friendships. In the construction camps Walter would pass the time talking and playing cards with many of the workers. He had a great sense of humour and became known as the "prankster". Walter loved a good joke. During his time spent in the North, Walter fulfilled his passion for nature. His stories would center around the beauty of the land and the animals he would see, especially the wolves. Walter is survived by his loving sister Mary (Valen) Doroschuk of Petersfield, MB, his two nieces, Cindy Doroschuk of Vancouver, BC and Heather Doroschuk of Winnipeg; and one nephew Vernon (Dawn) and their two children of Petersfield. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Teulon Hunter Memorial for all their support and care. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at the Chatfield Community Hall at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Chatfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital. Uncle Walter, you will be missed dearly, Till we meet again MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
