KATHERINE POWOROZNYK (HANCHARIK) It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden, yet peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Katherine Poworoznyk at the glorious age of 86. She died at the Concordia Hospital on Thursday, November 28, 2002. Kay, who was affectionately known to so many as Baba, was born September 10, 1916 in Gimli, MB. After marrying the late Michael Poworoznyk she lived and farmed in Fraserwood until moving to Gimli in 1954. At that time Katherine took up housekeeping for the cottages in Gimli. She was hard-working and well respected for her cooking skills, in particular, perogy and cabbage roll making for the community. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, playing bingo, trips to the casino, and above all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Katherine leaves to mourn her passing her son Peter and daughter-in-law Irene, grandchildren, Gale (Wade) Weber, Ken (Barb), Darrell (Wanda) son John and daughter-in-law Bernice, grandchildren, Tracy, Scott and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Michael and Melissa; also sister Stella Siatecki of Winnipeg; and sister-in-law Laura Cardinal of Oshawa, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 1988; her parents, Mike and Mary Hancharik; and brothers, Bill and Tony. Prayers will be sung 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 2 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli, with Rev.
