Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL RICHARD POPIEL 1932 - 2002 Suddenly on Thursday, December 12, 2002, at the age of 70, Michael Popiel, of Libau, MB, passed away at the Selkirk General Hospital. Michael was predeceased by his wife Ruth; son Darrin; parents Mike and Stella; parents-in-law Mike and Ann Samagalski; brother Frank; brothers-in-law, John Maty, John Woligroski, Ronald Samagalski; and sister-in-law Shirley Kachur. Michael will be deeply missed by daughters, Debbie (Gary) and Corrine (Barry) son Richard (Susan) grandchildren, Anthony (Katherine), James (Crystal), Bonny, Crystal, Nicole; brother Joe (Doris) sisters, Julie and Bernice; brother-in-law Tommy; sister-in-law Rose; close friends, Crystal and Deven; many nieces, nephews and friends. Michael was born in Ladywood, MB, in 1932 and married Ruth Samagalski on November 5, 1960. They lived in Libau, later moved to Winnipeg and spent 38 loving years together. Mike enjoyed farming, gardening, playing cards, and time with his grandchildren. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with Fr. Wesley Cwieka officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at the Polish National Cemetery, Libau. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Makarchuk, James Ackworth, Christopher Chubie, Ron Popiel, Raymond Popiel and Clarence Matychak. Special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, to Fr. Cwieka, and Doris, Carol and family.
