Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE (KAY) PORHOWNIK With deepest sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, at the Selkirk General Hospital on December 15, 2002, at the age of 83 years. Kay was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph on May 22, 1998; 14 brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Darlene (Dennis) Zabogruski and Yvonne (Peter) Carter-Frisch) two sons, Raymond (Betty) and Jack; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was born on March 1, 1919, in Gonor, MB, and was the youngest of 15 children. On October 23, 1937, she married Joe and they resided at Little Britain, MB, for most of their lives. Kay will always be admired for her spunk, her kind heart, sense of humour and great strength. The lessons she taught friends and family about life, in particular how to enjoy it, are the ones that we will cherish on our own journey through this world. She always took joy in good food, playing bingo, cribbage, a nice cup of tea and a hearty laugh with her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, especially her good friends, Stella Nowicki and Terri Demeria. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Little Britain United Church, with Rev. Chris Bridgett officiating. The family wishes to thank Red River Place Personal Care Home and Selkirk General Hospital for all the loving care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
