Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES JOHNSTON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Johnston on January 5, 2003 at the Concordia Hospital following a lengthy period of illness and finally admitted to the hospital. Jim was born on August 25, 1922 in Winnipeg where he resided his lifetime. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Norma-Faye of 25 years; his son Alex of Fort Frances; daughter Margaret Ritchie and son-in-law Jeffrey Ritchie of Nanaimo, BC; and his sister Isabella Loran of Long Sault, ON; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Zachary, Luke, Taleah, Andrew and Phyllis; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Ada, father James, sister Ellen Simpson and his first wife Phyllis Johnston. Jim was an inveterate traveller cruising yearly to many areas around the globe as well as vacationing for several weeks at various resorts in Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic. He loved the outdoors and for years spent the summer at Lake Brereton in the Whiteshell swimming, boating, fishing and gardening. Jim was in the restaurant supply equipment business for 60 years learning the trade at Winnipeg Cabinet Factory. He joined Williams Restaurant Supply and was there for many years. He then formed his own company, United Restaurant Supply, until retirement. Throughout his career he was respected for his honesty and competence. His career included restaurants, hotels, lounges, in Manitoba and across Canada. He was an entrepreneur owning two Gondola Restaurants in partnership with his best friend Robert Eakin. Funeral service to be held Wednesday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m.. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel 232 Kennedy St. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, where members of his family are interred.
